Hi Everyone ... who's interested in the environment, sustainability, ecologically friendly daily use products or goods in order to live a low impact and low toxicity lifestyle.
Assuming the above characterizes you or an aspect of your concerns or goals, then you are like me and we have much in common.
I started a long time ago in the late 1970's before going to college, I realized I wanted a profession in the energy saving or zero impact living world though zero impact was not coined at that time if my memory serves. I don't exactly know why it has always been important to me as I did not grow up off grid in a forest or on a small farm like "Little House on the Prairie" but I was attracted to it and many outdoor and wilderness adventure and living books, TV shows and films. Jack London books, films like Jeremiah Johnson, Swiss Family Robinson etc had me imagining life like that brings up how to survive with little, make do with less or to stretch what you do have to last a long time i.e. sustainability. Turn off the lights when you leave a room to save electricity save money and reduce the pollution from the generation of that electricity. This was instilled into me as a child in reminders to not waste paper towels, grab a reusable rag, towel or sponge, push the hand powered reel lawn mower instead of the gas powered toxic mower. Yet now in our modern life we are surrounded by throw-a-way water bottles, disposable wipes, crappy plastic packages single use food or drinks, 5000 lb gas SUV's for daily trips. It is an abomination for our planet that we love and seems out of control contributing to our personal angst.
Maybe a desire for some control over this wasteful modern lifestyle is why I created Bean Products. It is an attempt to counter the mass eco-cide momentum against our planet from unfettered commerce and consumption. Why consume so much and how to lessen or stop this behavior? Bean Products is a small answer to that question, for me and maybe you too. For me it is making eco-friendly, local, and especially long lasting durable useful products that can be passed on to future generations. Choosing our handcrafted items definitely meets these goals. It is not fast cheap throw-a-way stuff. Our products are an investment in your way of life and need to be considered for durability and the features, benefits and qualities it brings to your home and lifestyle. I think we are a good choice on the whole.
In the future I will discuss more of my personal eco journey and lifestyle in a major American city because it is somewhat unique and some might find it interesting and inspiring in many ways and the various lovely and useful products that we produce at Bean. So stay tuned and thanks for reading.
