Kids Bean Bag Chairs

Bean bag chairs sized for kids, sewn in Chicago with double-needle seams and a cover that unzips and goes in the washer. Four fabrics: cotton for the most colors at the lowest price, GOTS organic cotton for a nursery, 17 oz hemp for the kid who treats furniture as a trampoline, and marine vinyl for playrooms, patios and anyone who spills. Filled with recycled, non-toxic beads; on the fabric chairs they live in their own cotton liner.

Which fabric for which kid

Cotton is the default: soft, washable, and if it gets destroyed it's the cheapest to replace. Organic cotton is the same chair with a GOTS-certified cover, for parents who want to know what's against a toddler's skin. Hemp is the one that survives a decade and gets handed down; it's heavier fabric, it softens with washing, and it doesn't pill. Vinyl wipes clean with a damp cloth, which is the whole argument for it in a room with juice, markers and a dog.

Sizing

The kids chair is about 32 inches across and 20 inches tall, rated for up to 200 pounds, and fits toddlers through early grade school. When their feet hang well past the front edge with their back against the chair, they've outgrown it and want the adult lounger (36 x 36 x 40 inches, rated to around 300 pounds), which teens use too. Two small kids fit on the loveseat (53 x 38 x 38).

Safety

On the cotton, organic cotton and hemp chairs the beads sit in a separate cotton liner, so unzipping the outer cover to wash it doesn't expose the fill. The vinyl chair is a single bag with the beads inside, which is why it's wiped clean rather than unzipped. The fill is recycled, non-toxic bead, not foam that off-gasses, and there are no flame retardants in any of our products. Washing and refilling

Cover off, machine wash cold, tumble low; vinyl, wipe it. The beads compress over a year or two of use, which reads as the chair "going flat." That's fixed with a bag of bean bag fill, not a new chair: how much you need and how to refill without a mess.

Ours, yes: on the fabric chairs the beads are sealed in a cotton liner, the covers are natural fiber or vinyl, and there are no flame retardants. Supervise very young children on any bean bag, as with any soft furniture.

Can you wash a kids bean bag chair?

The outer cover, yes, in the machine. The liner with the beads stays put. Vinyl covers wipe clean.
