Hemp Dog Beds

Dog beds with covers cut from 17 oz organic hemp, in seven sizes from 18 x 12 to 54 x 36. Hemp is naturally antimicrobial, so the bed holds odor less between washes, and it softens with washing instead of wearing out. Choose shredded CertiPUR-US foam or organic latex inside. Covers are sold separately in seven colors for when the original finally gives out. Sewn in Chicago.

Why hemp for a dog bed

Three reasons, in order of how much they matter day to day. Hemp resists bacteria and mildew on its own, so a bed in the living room stays tolerable longer. It wicks moisture and breathes, which keeps thick-coated and damp dogs cooler and drier than synthetic covers do. And it's the strongest natural fiber, so the cover outlasts cotton. More on the fiber on our why hemp page.

Foam or latex

Same cover, different insert. CertiPUR-US foam is lighter and conforms; organic latex holds firm under weight, doesn't trap heat and resists dust mites. Young and average dogs do fine on foam. Senior dogs, giant breeds and anything with joint trouble should get latex.

Hemp dog bed covers only

The fill usually outlives the cover. Hemp and cotton covers are sold on their own in all seven sizes, in natural, black, blueberry, cranberry, cactus, cocoa and shadow grey, so a torn cover or a redecorated room doesn't mean a new bed.

Is it indestructible?

No. Hemp is the most abrasion-resistant cover we make, and it will outlast cotton or polyester under a digger. A determined chewer will still get through it. If your dog eats beds, no fabric bed is the answer.

Frequently asked questions

Are hemp dog beds washable?

The cover unzips and machine washes cold. The insert is spot-clean only. Hemp gets softer every wash.

Does hemp smell?

New hemp fabric has a faint plant smell that goes after the first wash. After that it holds less odor than cotton or synthetics.

What sizes do you make?

XX-Small (18 x 12) through XX-Large (54 x 36). The full chart with breed examples is on the dog beds page.
