Cotton Dog Beds

Dog beds in cotton duck canvas, the tightly woven upholstery cotton used for work jackets and boat covers. It takes digging and circling without pilling, breathes so the dog doesn't overheat, and unzips to go in the washer. Shredded CertiPUR-US foam inside, seven sizes from 18 x 12 to 54 x 36, sewn in Chicago.

Why duck canvas

Regular cotton fabric pills and thins where a dog scratches. Duck canvas is woven tight and heavy, so the abrasion point is the seam, not the fabric, and the seams here are built for repeated washing. It's also the cover we'd pick for a bed that lives in a sunny room: cotton doesn't hold heat the way synthetic fleece or microfiber does.

Washing

Unzip the cover, wash cold, tumble low or hang to dry. Expect minor shrinkage on the first wash, which is why the covers are cut slightly full. The foam insert stays out of the washer; spot-clean and air-dry. Every week or two is a reasonable rhythm, more often for dogs that swim.

Sizes

Same seven sizes as the hemp beds, from XX-Small (18 x 12) to XX-Large (54 x 36). The size chart and breed guide are on the main dog beds page. Custom dimensions are a custom order.

Frequently asked questions

Cotton or hemp?

Cotton duck if abrasion is the problem and you wash often. Hemp if odor is the problem, since it's naturally antimicrobial, or if you want the cover to soften over years rather than wear.

Is the foam safe?

It's CertiPUR-US certified, which means it's tested for low emissions and made without flame retardants, formaldehyde or heavy metals.

Do you sell the cover on its own?
