Organic Products

Everything we make in certified organic materials: pillows filled with organic buckwheat hulls, millet hulls, kapok or shredded latex inside GOTS organic cotton shells; organic cotton pillowcases and dust-mite protectors; and organic cotton meditation cushions, yoga bolsters, bean bag chairs, floor mats and shower curtains. Organic here means a certificate, not a color palette: GOTS for the cotton, certified organic hulls grown in the US Midwest. Sewn and filled in Chicago since 1987.

What "organic" means on this page

Two certifications do the work. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) covers the cotton: grown without synthetic pesticides, processed without the bleaches, formaldehyde finishes and heavy-metal dyes conventional textiles allow, with the chain of custody audited. Certified organic agriculture covers the fills: buckwheat and millet hulls grown organically in the Midwest, triple-screened before they go in a pillow. Kapok and latex are organic-grown plant materials. Where a product here is organic in the cover but not the fill, or the other way round, the product page says which.

Organic bedding, honestly

We make pillows, pillowcases and pillow protectors. We don't make sheets, duvets, blankets or mattress pads. Anyone landing here for an organic mattress pad should know that before scrolling.

Organic pillows by fill

Fill Feels like Best for
Buckwheat hulls Firm, holds a shape, rustles Side and back sleepers with neck pain
Millet hulls Firm but finer and quiet The same, for lighter sleepers
Kapok Down-like, lofty, soft Stomach sleepers and down lovers who can't use feathers
Shredded latex Springy, resilient, cool Memory-foam refugees who sleep hot

All four come in GOTS organic cotton shells and standard, queen and king sizes; most also in Japanese, toddler and neck roll sizes. Organic pillowcases and the zippered organic dust-mite protector fit all of them.

Beyond the bedroom

The organic cotton zafu and zabuton, organic cotton yoga bolsters, organic cotton bean bag chairs, the organic cotton floor mat and the organic cotton shower curtain. Same certificate, same Chicago shop.

Organic cotton fabric

We sew with GOTS cotton but don't sell it by the yard right now. Custom orders can sometimes source a cut length.

Frequently asked questions

Are your pillows GOTS certified?

The organic cotton shells are. The hull fills are certified organic agricultural products; the certificate is different because hulls are a crop, not a textile.

What's the difference between organic and natural?

Natural describes the material; organic describes how it was grown and processed, and it comes with an audit. Everything here is both.

Do you make organic sheets or a mattress pad?

No. Pillows, pillowcases and pillow protectors only.

Is the latex organic?

Yes, GOLS certified: at least 95% certified organic raw material, processed without pesticides. Shredded, in an organic cotton shell.
