Sizing an insert to a cover

Covers are cut to their stated size and inserts are measured flat, so a 20 x 20 insert in a 20 x 20 cover leaves the corners empty. The rule: insert 2 inches larger than the cover. An 18-inch cover takes a 20-inch insert, a 22-inch cover takes a 24. Lumbar sizes are stocked; for anything else, ask for a custom size.

Kapok or poly

Organic kapok is plush and settles when you lean on it, the way a down insert does, and it's the pick for bed pillows you'll sleep against. Recycled PET, polyester fiber made from cleaned, shredded plastic bottles, holds its shape, costs less and can go in the washer, which makes it right for a sofa that gets sat on, kids, and anywhere a cover comes off often. The organic recycled-polyester insert is the same idea with a certified organic shell.
