A shower curtain that works without a plastic liner

Most fabric shower curtains need a liner behind them. This one doesn't. The cotton duck canvas is woven tightly enough that shower spray stops at the fabric — no second layer of plastic hanging in your tub.

That's the part people are usually skeptical about. One customer put it plainly after her first week: it gets wet, but no water gets outside the stall, and it dries.

The other thing you notice on day one is that it stays where you put it. Cotton duck has enough weight to hang flat instead of billowing in and sticking to you halfway through a shower.

Why cotton duck instead of vinyl or polyester

Vinyl curtains are PVC. In a warm, steamy bathroom they off-gas, and that new-shower-curtain smell is the giveaway. Polyester curtains skip the PVC but usually get their water resistance from a chemical finish, and they're plastic either way.

Cotton duck gets its performance from the weave — the fabric itself does the work. There's no plastic layer to crack, yellow, or peel, and no phthalates or plastic fumes in your bathroom. Customers regularly get four-plus years out of one, longer than any plastic curtain most of them had before.

The trade-off worth knowing: cotton takes longer to dry than plastic, and it will hold mildew if you leave it bunched up. Spread it out after your shower and wash it monthly and this is a non-issue. Bunch it up wet in a closed bathroom and you'll have a problem.

White or natural

White is a clean, bright neutral that suits tiled and modern bathrooms. Stains come out with color-safe bleach or peroxide, so it stays bright over years of washing.

Natural is an undyed beige with a soft linen look. Nothing is added to change the color of the fiber.

Both let daylight through while staying opaque enough for privacy — useful in a windowless bathroom where a vinyl curtain makes the tub feel like a closet.

Measure your rod, not your tub. Stall sizes are genuinely hard to find in a decent fabric, which is why we make two of them.

At 74" the curtain hangs just above the floor on a standard rod. On a lower rod you may want an inch or two off the bottom — a tailor can do it, or you can hem it yourself.

Does it really work without a plastic liner? Yes. The weave is tight enough that spray doesn't pass through. The fabric gets damp on the shower side and dries out between uses. This is the most common thing customers write in about after the fact, usually to say they were skeptical and it worked.

Will it billow into the shower? No. Cotton duck is heavy enough to hang flat. Not billowing is the single most-mentioned thing in our reviews.

Does it shrink? A little on the first wash. Wash cold and hang dry before hanging it and shrinkage stays minimal.

Will it get moldy? Not if you spread it out after showering and wash it monthly. Cotton dries well when it's spread flat. It will mildew if you leave it bunched and damp — same as a towel. For a bathroom with heavy humidity and no fan, hemp resists mold better.

What's the difference between this and the organic version? Same construction and sizes. The organic curtain uses GOTS certified cotton and costs more. This one is conventional cotton, made in the USA.

Can I use it as a liner behind a decorative curtain? Plenty of customers do, specifically to get plastic out of the bathroom.
