How Do You Wash a Cotton Pillow?
First check whether “cotton” describes the outer fabric, the filling, or both. A cotton shell does not mean the whole pillow can go in the washing machine.
Separate the parts
- Removable cover: follow its care label for washing temperature and drying.
- Filled pillow: use the instructions for its particular fill. Kapok and buckwheat filling should not be submerged.
- Empty shell: only wash it separately if the product permits removing all fill and washing the shell.
For permitted spot cleaning, use minimal moisture and let the fabric dry completely. Do not return fill to a damp shell. If the label permits washing the filled pillow, follow its machine and drying instructions exactly; do not apply one pillow’s instructions to another.
