Bag or sling

A bag encloses the mat, keeps it dry, and gives you somewhere to put the things you'd otherwise carry in your hand. A sling is two loops and a shoulder strap; the mat stays exposed, which is fine for a walk to a studio and not fine on a bike in the rain. "Mat carrier" and "mat holder" mean either of these depending on who's selling.

Neither one is meant for a bolster — those travel by the handle sewn into the end, not inside a bag.

Which fabric

Cotton canvas is structured, holds its shape empty, and washes. Hemp is tougher and naturally antimicrobial, which matters when a sweaty mat lives in it for the ride home. The organic cotton chakra bag is cotton canvas with a print, for people who want the bag to look like something. There's also a sourced nylon bag if you need something that sheds rain.

Cotton and hemp bags wash cold and air-dry; nylon, wipe it. The mat inside is a different job: wipe it with a yoga mat cleaner, never the washing machine.

Will it fit my mat

Width is rarely the problem; almost every mat is 24 inches wide. Thickness is. A 1/8-inch mat rolls to about 4 inches across and fits the 27 x 7 bag with room to spare. A 1/4-inch rubber or TPE mat rolls to 6 or more and wants the 32 x 8. If in doubt, the larger bag fits everything.

Rolled thickness is listed on every mat we make, so shop yoga mats and size the bag to the roll if you're buying both at once. Blocks won't ride inside either size — shop yoga blocks separately if you're still filling out the kit.
